Welcome goes to all the new students that have joined our club since the Aug.   Many will join in the fall months and usually quit by Christmas.  I hope you will give TKD or Combat Hapkido a chance.  It takes several months to get a feel for the very basic movements and most don’t stay around long enough... I hope you will!

Our next promotion test for those that will test is 4 Dec between 9 and 1:30 pm at the YMCA Day Care building (the long building on the left).  Don’t ask...I’ll let you know if you will be considered for testing in a few days.  You must have a minimum of 30 hours of class participation since your last test or joining.  Exceptions apply to those that know their material very well and or have competed in competitions.   Some students come a few times a month and forget what they have learned the previous month, so please don’t ask me if you are going to test.  If you can’t stand in line without dancing- twitching-squirming etc....then you surely will not be a test candidate.  If you are already  a colored belt and can’t stand in line without doing the same....you will not be able to test this cycle.  Acting the next rank goes with knowing it too. We will have a potluck dinner one night in Dec. and test candidates  will be awarded their new ranks at that time as well as a few awards.   If you are unable to attend the test on 4 Dec., I’ll have a make up doing class one evening.  The make up test will be harder than the class on Sat.!   Don’t forget that a parent has to approve your test application, so if your grades or behavior are unacceptable, it’s your fault.

29 Jan 2005 is Master Grant’s Friendship Tournament-  This TKD competition is at the Chesapeake Conference Center in Greenbrier.  It is a well-run competition which is as close to home as they come.  See our web site for registration details.  Don’t forget to register on-line earlier to say some bucks.  You must know your form for your belt level to compete.

On 25 Sept. I attended the 1st Annual 2004 Legends of Champion Martial Arts Hall of Fame in Baltimore.  Grand Master Spruiell, my judo & ju-jitsu instructor, submitted me for an award in that council.  It was formerly known as the North America Black Belt Hall of Fame.  I received an award for Out Standing Instructor of the Year.

On 24 Oct. I attended the 11th Annual World Head of Family Sokeship Council Achievement Awards in Orlando, Fl. I received A Silver Lifetime Award submitted by our instructor Grand Master  Pellegrini.  You may see lots of photos of both events on our web site vatkd.com.

Uniforms are due 15th –19th  Nov.!

Instructor’s Corner- I want to thank my wife and family for their constant support over the years since I started training while stationed in Japan (1975~78) through   the present.  All my past and present instructors I have had the honor to train with in the various arts. The many young and old students to pass thru my classes that I have had the pleasure to train and spar over the past several years.  Thank You All!
